A waste audit is a formal, structured process used to quantify the amount and types of waste being generated by an organisation.
Less Waste conductsmost types of waste audits: office waste, municipal waste, commercial and industrial waste, and construction and demolition waste. After the audit we provide a waste audit report inlcuding key recommendations to help you improve your waste management practices.
What are the objectives of a waste audit?
Information from audits will help identify current waste practices and how they can be improved. The objectives of a waste audit are to :
- determine composition and quantities of waste being generated
- identify which areas within the organisation are producing more waste
- measure effectiveness of existing waste management systems
- identify opportunities for improving waste management systems and strategies
- collect baseline data for reporting purposes.
The results of a waste audit help make decisions about reduced waste management costs and better use of limited natural resources.
How much does a waste audit cost and how long does it take?
This depends on the size of the organisation and the number of sites to be audited. As a guideline, $750 may cover an audit of a single site medium size organisation and it would approximately take half a day to complete. We ask that the client provides 3 or 4 members of staff to assist with the audit to save on labour costs and to learn first hand about the waste being produced in their organisation.
